The Bastard Sword is a greatsword in Dark Souls III.

In-Game Description

A widely-used heavy greatsword normally wielded with two hands.
Broad horizontal sweeping attacks make this sword effective against multiple enemies, but unwieldy in narrow spaces.
Skill: Stomp
Use one's weight to lunge forward with a low stance and increased poise, and follow with a strong attack for an upward slash.

A ubiquitous weapon, the Bastard Sword is a very economical greatsword that makes it strong on a number of builds.

At 8.0 units, the Bastard Sword is the third-lightest greatsword in the game, beat by the Drakeblood Greatsword and Wolnir's Holy Sword and tying with the Storm Ruler. As well, it has virtually no Dexterity requirements to wield, allowing almost any build to equip and use it. And finally, its stamina consumption is among the lowest among all greatswords in the game, granting its wielder improved stamina economy.

The Bastard Sword specializes in horizontal and vertical slashing attacks. It has a similar moveset to the Claymore, though it lacks the latter's thrusting attacks, which limits its reach and makes it difficult to use in corridors.

On physical builds, the Bastard Sword possesses high Strength scaling, allowing it to deal high potential damage when two-handed. It is also one of only two greatswords with the Stomp weapon art, and the only one with the upward slash variant (the other, the Executioner's Greatsword, has the horizontal spinning slash), allowing it to be used to win trades against other players who are using similar-sized or even larger weapons. For these two reasons, the Bastard Sword can be quite powerful in the right hands with a Heavy infusion and high amounts of Poise.
