The Balder Shield is a medium shield in Dark Souls.
In-Game Description
- Shield of the knights of the ancient kingdom of Balder. Tweaked for improved stability.
- Balder was the home of the Knight King Rendal, but the kingdom was reduced to ruins after a widespread outbreak of Undead.
Availability[]
The Balder Shield is an uncommon drop from Balder Knights. Only knights actually using the shield will drop it - Balder Knights using the Buckler will drop that instead. It can also be purchased from the Crestfallen Merchant in Sen's Fortress for 4,000 souls.
Characteristics[]
The Balder Shield has the second-highest base stability of all medium shields, and is therefore one of the strongest shields against physical attacks early in the game. Later on, the Silver Knight Shield exceeds it in most respects, but is also heavier and has slightly higher stat requirements, making the Balder Shield remain an all-around good choice into the endgame if upgraded.
It has a medium deflection and normal parry speed. When upgraded to crystal, its durability is 22.
Resistance Defense[]
Along with Physical and Elemental damage reduction, weapons also have hidden stats that reduce the amount of status build-up while blocking.
