- For the Dark Souls III enemy, see Hollow Assassin.
- "An assassin who stalks their prey from the shadows. Favors sorceries in addition to thrusting swords."
- — Character Creation
The Assassin is one of the classes in Dark Souls 3.
It is a Dexterity-based class with decent Attunement for Weapon Arts and spells and some Intelligence for Sorceries.
An unusually long Thrusting Sword, the Estoc is also quite strong and has a rare sweeping heavy attack for hitting several or agile foes easier, at the cost of not having an increased critical modifier for Ripostes and Backstabs. Additionally, its Weapon Art, Shield Splitter, helps with its bad damage to the stamina of blocking targets by partially bypassing the defences of the block instead.
Its Targeting Shield, while not very suitable for blocking, is one of the game's three parrying shields and as such its Parry starts slightly earlier yet ends as late as the regular parry.
The Assassin Set has only moderate physical defences but has good magic and fire defences, and high overall resistances against anything that isn't Bleed.
While the Assassin doesn't have any ranged attack, its Spook Sorcery is extremely useful for removing most non-fatal fall damage and for completely silencing footsteps for 20 seconds, allowing certain obstacles to be bypassed . Unfortunately, while the starting Sorcerer's Staff is a fairly good spell tool, if not exactly the best, it won't actually start to gain scaling from stats until Intelligence has reached at least 19, delaying a possible strengthening of the character's Sorceries.
Picking up the Soul Arrow Sorcery from the Shrine Handmaid gives a reusable ranged attack early on, while the weapon buffing Magic Weapon Sorcery can be gained in either Undead Settlement or Road of Sacrifices to add some of a Staff's spellbuff to weapon damage.

Trivia[]
- This class is fairly popular amongst speedrunners thanks to Spook making it possible to easier skip foes and falls.
- While the Assassin doesn't have any direct equivalent class in the Dark Souls series, it does bear some resemblance to the Royalty class from FromSoftware's previous game Demon's Souls, another Dexterity/Intelligence-based class wielding a thrusting sword (in that case a Rapier) and a small shield while also providing access to a Sorcery-like spell (though in the Royalty's case it is the offensive Soul Arrow, not a self-buffing spell).
