- For the Dark Souls II variant, see Ammunition (Dark Souls II).
Ammunition are items in Dark Souls III. Depending on their type, they may be fired with either bows, crossbows or greatbows.
General information[]
Arrows and bolts must first be equipped in the 'Equipment' screen before they can be fired. Players can select up to two arrow types and two bolt types to use. When a bow or crossbow is readied, pressing the weak attack button ( or ) will use the ammunition equipped in the first (left) slot, while pressing the strong attack button ( or ) will use the ammunition equipped in the second (right) slot.
Arrows may only be fired by bows, while bolts can only be fired by crossbows. Greatarrows, on the other hand, can only be fired by greatbows. Greatarrows may be equipped in the same slot as regular arrows.
Equipping arrows or bolts in the left equip slot while a bow or crossbow is also equipped, will cause a quiver or bolt quiver to appear on the player. Having the right slot filled but the left slot empty will not cause any quivers to appear.
All ammunition deals the Thrust damage type. Each type has an innate damage value that is added on to the damage value of the bow or crossbow that fires them. Some ammunition can also deal elemental damage in addition to Thrust, and Poison Arrows possess the Poison status effect. Each ammunition has its own range value, which serves to increase or decrease the effective range of the weapon.
Ammunition cannot be upgraded.
