On his first phase, he is particularly weak to lightning damage. On his second phase however, his main weaknesses are fire and dark damage. Infuse your weapon of choice with either of these and bring a secondary weapon you can switch to when you get to his 2nd phase. High lighting resistance equipment is the most favorable for this fight as well.

Imagine if the guy that gave that to you is playing a version of DS in which you can dye weapons and armor.
