Just want to say thanks for the helpful tips to get though the ringed city! Some friends are also going to help me get though aswell so wish us luck!
I got all excited at the prospect of starting NG+ that I just accepted it straight away. I didn't get round to completing the DLCs. I'm a muppet.
This is my first playthrough and I just beat the nameless king, and I’m going against slave knight gael just to get him over with as he’s the last boss I have to deal with (along with midir but I specifically saved him for last) and I would like to know any tips for going into this fight? I heard he is weak against abyss weapons like wolf knight greatsword and farron greatsword, not sure if that’s true. Is he resistent to any buffs like lightning, dark, magic, etc. I just want to know a bit about this boss before I move forward into it.
So I am on the twin princes but have the option to beat the nameless king, I do about 300+ damage to the princes and nameless king but not sure who to go for first because I usually defeat a optional boss before a boss I need to defeat in order to get more powerful. I did that with the abyss watchers by going to the deacons, so. Idk my build is usually for strength and this is my first playthrough, I use exile great sword with heavy buff and is +9 I believe (maxed it out just yesterday) and I have about 23 damage absorption. I just need some tips or even just opinions on what others would do. Thanks.
Its so baad Midir .. help me please :/
I'm on ng+3 , lvl around 220
So, with my recent second completion of Dark Souls 3 including all bosses and the second ending, I thought I'd finally give the DLC a shot. Where should I start: Ashes of Ariandel or The Ringed City? Is there a preferred way to start story wise or is it all the same? Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance guys
So I’ve been a fan of these games for quite a long time now and have absorbed every facet of the lore there is to soak up out there but never got too far on my own in any of the games despite my best efforts.
Finally after several years I broke down and bought Xbox Live to get help just a few days ago and finally beat the Soul of Cinder after four years of getting stuck at the Twin Princes. Now, I own the DLC but I’ve done little research into actual walkthroughs for either Ariandel or the Ringed City and I really need help if anyone is willing to co-op :)
Should I finish the main game before I try to start the DLC? I know I have to finish either the main game or Ashes of Ariendel to start The Ringed City, but does it matter if I want to start AoA before I finish the game?
Well met again, my wayward compatriot...
Come and warm yourself by the fire, as I’ve a quite a tale to tell today... so settle down drink, eat, and listen to this thrilling adventure.
Whilst venturing throughout the fable Ringed City I was eventually beset by an Arch-dragon, Darkeater Midir. By Faraam was it a marvellous sight to behold!
I miraculously avoided his first assault, but with few options left to me I ran across the bridge for the mountain before me. Better there than the open streets.
Midir circled around and gave chase, covering ground that took me a minute in mere seconds. As the dragon closed the distance I knew I wouldn’t make the pass, fortunately Faraam seemed to favour me this day and guided mine eyes to a crevasse in the mountain side.
Without hesitation a made for it, the heat from the dragon’s fire hastened my pace. I reached the crevasse and came around the corner to see a whinging little shit throw himself at me to push me out!
Instinctively I reached out and grabbed the undead cleric by the shoulder and pulled myself in while throwing him out, I close call if there ever was one.
I won’t lie, bastard got me a bit... my white lion stole was smouldering.
I stood there awhile weighing my options, there were no other crevasses to safeguard me from the dragon, when I noticed a lower pass just further up. Unfortunately it was too far up... this wasn’t a thrilling option mind you, but it was the only one I had.
How'd I survive? Did you learn nothing from my previous advice? I baited the dragon you daft fool.
I ran out of the crevasse and went straight for the entrance, but the second I saw Midir jump down from his perch I turned right around and ran back in the crevasse. Once Midir passed I made my effort in earnest, ran right out onto the scorched pass as fast as my legs could carry me.
The fire lingering on the pass burnt me a little, but I pushed forth. I ran straight along the pass until I was certain Midir had circled around and was after me again, just as he was about to be on me I rushed to the ledge and leapt, landing on the pass below as fire streamed overhead. My landing was rough but I pressed forth up the path and into the mountain before Midir could circle around for another pass.
I hath finally made my way out of this tomb, this... burial mound, after a few setbacks and before me stood a welcome sight indeed. A large and solid structure. Only thing that was not welcoming was the stone bridge leading to it.
Wary of my predator I peeked around a little while... now while I’ve not heard nor seen my pursuer, it would be foolish to assume that he wasn’t out there. Just like a lion stalking its meal... you won’t know it’s there until it leaps out to get you.
So it was that I was trapped and I suffered no delusion, had no doubt that Midir was watching the mountain waiting for me... Not wishing to delay any further I sprang out of the mountain and made for the bridge.
Despite making good ground, Midir was quicker and worse: he was smart. Midir knew that if I made it across the path then I’d win and so raced to the bridge and blocked the path.
I quickly dove to the side behind a ledge protruding from the ground as Midir scorched the path I was on. Midir reared for another attack to burn me out, and burn me out he did... only, not the way he expected.
I ran out from behind my cover and rushed the bastard, swing my Longsword with all my might and striking him in the head. Reeling from the sudden assault Midir lurched back and haphazardly unleashed a furry of blows in bestial rage. I avoided it by backing away and then pressing my assault when he calmed down to adjust his attacks.
Eventually I succeeded in wounding the beast, knocking the dragon from the ledge and into the chasm below.
Oh! How I roared with laughter and joy! I never felt so alive and excited!
I wandered into the building and into a circular room with a statue of Gwyn crowning someone, from here there were three branching paths.
One was the path I entered from, another led towards a Ringed Knight blocking a church, and the last was an elevator shaft. I opted for the lift and hoped I’d find some needed rest after that encounter.
On my way up the shaft I took notice of something quite queer indeed... in the vertical shaft there was a doorway of all things, this warranted further investigation.
As I made it to the top I couldn’t help be shake my head in amusement... I was right back where I had started. Somehow through my run of the city and then the mountain I ended up at very first building I set foot in. Well, being in familiar territory I set up a bonfire to warm myself and lay for a while to get some much needed rest.
Next morning I went down the shaft and opted to explore the unusual opening, as the left was speeding down I leapt into the opening. There were two paths to pick here, one lead to a hole over the statue of Gwyn and the other to a circular room with no exit except the way I came.
I knew this immediately to be a trick, one I've seen too oft to be fooled by. No one builds these elaborate statues in a hidden area for fun, I unsheathed my sword and dragged it across the walls and found one of the statues to be an illusion that concealed a corridor.
At the end of this corridor there was a small opening and a ladder, reaching the bottom took a while and here I found a little chapel with robes laid out by the altar... more curious? Behind the altar was a hole from which I could hear a familiar sound, ‘twas unmistakable. I went down the hole landing safely in a massive cavern, only I wasn’t alone. My instinct was correct, it was Midir and he was asleep...
There was no quick way out, the cavern was massive, so massive there was plenty of room for him to fly... still, I had the element of surprise, so I drew my blade and rushed the beast.
An intense battle ensued, like in the tales of old! A knight facing a dragon, how I wish there was someone to witness what happened.
Like last time I stayed in front of the beast, I let him fight himself by urging his uncontrolled rage to let it guide him to make him predictable. I, on the other hand, couldn’t afford to be reckless for it surely would’ve been the end of me.
I avoided the beasts attacks, from talon, to teeth, to fire, and yet he almost got me with a surprise by shooting magic from his mouth and later casting spells. How marvellous... a dragon capable of both fire and dark magic attacks?
Nevertheless I stayed the course and Faraam be praised, I endured. From sprinting away from attacks, to diving under charges and flights, to simply running to the sides to avoid the monster’s attacks I survived. I defeated the dragon by letting the beast tire itself out and overextend itself, taking every opportunity to lash out at the beasts head until it was no more.
As I rejoiced in my victory I came to sudden realization when my revelry died down, while the floor was covered with ankle-high water it didn’t hide all the corpses at the bottom. This was the beast’s home...
Think about it! Any wounded beast, be it man or otherwise, would seek comfort, and what better more welcoming place than home?
This only brought many questions... why was there a chapel, so well hidden, and why did it lead to Midir? I think I pieced it together after unveiling the mysterious robes...
You see, the robes I found belong to a group of fanatical warriors dedicated to Filianore; Spears of the Church one of their members wore something exactly like it.
Further more Filianore is a daughter of Gwyn, left here, in City, by her father and Midir is her guardian.
Reminds me of the Road of Sacrifices, does thous’t recall? The path where people were march to the Cathedral of the Deep through a backroad in the settlement of the undead? They were marched to their deaths, men, woman, and children so that Aldrich the man-eater could eat them alive and take perverse pleasure in their tortured screams.
I propose to thee that this chapel was used to pray to Gwyn and send people to his pet, but these people were not warriors for I saw no weapons or armour. They sent these people, these... sacrifices down into the chasm in all likeliness to feed Gwyn’s pet.
So now that I’ve told you my tale I will pose thee a question for you see, people such as I would never lay down and accept such a fate... no, we would die fighting with a weapon in our hands and a war cry on our lips.
What of thee? Art thou a lion that will fight for survival, or art thou a lamb willingly led to the slaughter?
Perhaps one day you can tell me your tales, so that I may know your story and know myself for certain which you are...
